A: Naturopathic Medicine is a system of health care that uses natural substances to treat disease. Naturopathic practitioners focus on identifying and correcting the cause of a condition, not simply management of the symptoms.

Endocrine System imbalances
Gastrointestinal disorders

FAQ #3: What exactly does a Naturopathic Doctor do?

A: Naturopathic Doctors primarily work with homeopathy, supplements, botanicals (herbal remedies), nutrition, lifestyle changes and acupuncture to affect change and improve well being. As a practitioner of natural and preventative medicine, Naturopathic Doctors use a health care format that supports the body’s ability to defend and heal itself, looking at the whole body – not just the symptom or current issue.

FAQ #4: Do my health care benefits cover Naturopathic Medicine?

A: Many people have extended care health benefits from work that cover Naturopathic Medicine. It is quite common. If your plan covers you for Massage Therapy, chances are it might cover a Naturopathic Doctor as well. Consult your benefits guide or company for verification.

FAQ #5: Does OHIP (Ontario Health Insurance Plan) cover Naturopathic Medicine?

No. Not yet. It may in the distant future. There has been talk of regulatory legislation perhaps going that direction. Other Canadian provinces such as British Columbia cover Naturopathic Medicine with their provincial health plan. For now in Ontario, Naturopathic Medicine is a private fee for service option unless you have benefit coverage.

FAQ #6: Does a Naturopathic Doctor replace my Medical Doctor?

No. You need your medical doctor. There are many some things an MD can do that an ND cannot. Though there are many things that medical doctors are not able to effectively address that natural medicine can. We feel that best option is to have them compliment each other.
